Celebrating freedom and womanhood at our first Modern Slavery Summer Ball!
This August, we held our first ever summer ball at our Modern Day Slavery safe house and it was a night to remember! It was an absolute explosion of emotions as we celebrated freedom and womanhood.
Let us tell you a bit more about our safe house… Our modern slavery safe house is a safe space for women who have escaped modern slavery in the UK. The specialist refuge features 12 safe, welcoming flats and a new reception centre for women rescued from modern slavery.
The safe house was filled to the brim with excitement and anticipation the week running up to the ball with fun events like creative crafts and a relaxing spa day where the ladies had their nails professionally done by The Beauty Box. We had support throughout the week from our brilliant young leaders from our successful Young Leaders Project that ran over the summer.
So what do you normally do at a party? Eat, drink, and dance? Well, that’s exactly what our ladies did, whilst looking positively stunning. Some of our lovely staff dressed as waiters and had drinks on standby for all of the ladies – it was their night.
Everyone got glammed up to the nines by our very own hair and beauty team (Precision Haircare + make-up by Ashleigh). They even had their own fabulous dress to choose from and wear, all kindly donated by Olivia’s Closet/Dreamdays Bridal, along with an elegant corsage handmade by The Enchanted Florist. The ball had a wonderful cake donated by Olivia Tree cakes and its own candy cart which really brought the celebration together.
For most of the evening, there was a fantastic mix of music from our very own singer, Darcie Edwards, with music from everyone’s hometown that gave everyone disco fever. But before that, everyone in the room was brought to tears as the women all took turns telling everyone about their stories and how grateful they were to be there. We’ve put some special feedback from the women down below:
This was a momentous day that allowed the women and children in the safe house to have the chance to get ‘glammed up’ and celebrate life in a safe place.
We would like to thank everyone who donated and supported the night, we wouldn’t be able to make wonderful occasions like this happen without you.
If you would like to support us to make events like this happen for the women and children we work with, you can donate here or contact our fundraising team.
