During her time in office, Miss Watson’s focus will be on supporting women and girls; championing safety, opportunity and dignity through a whole-community approach and inviting men and boys to be active allies. The High Sheriff will work across civic, voluntary and public sectors to widen opportunity and build trust, with Black Country Women’s Aid as a key charity partner.

Miss Watson selected BCWA for its inclusive approach to supporting women, men and children affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking, exploitation and modern slavery. BCWA’s ‘one front door’ model provides victim-survivors with accommodation, advocacy, counselling, and support with employment, training, education and life skills, helping people rebuild their lives with safety and confidence.

Sara Ward, CEO of Black Country Women’s Aid said:

“It is an honour to be chosen as the High Sheriff of the West Midlands’ Charity of the Year. It is an exciting time for us as we commemorate our 40th anniversary this year and we are looking forward to collaborating with Carmen on her particular interest in women’s justice.

“BCWA recognises that many women involved in offending, or at risk of offending, have experienced significant trauma, abuse, exploitation, poor mental health or substance misuse. Our support approach is holistic, gender-responsive and trauma-informed to offer the best chances of recovery and transformation.

“We are thrilled that the High Sheriff will be a champion for our clients, an advocate for our cause and a supporter of our services.”

Carmen Watson, High Sheriff of the West Midlands said:

“I am proud to support Black Country Women’s Aid as my charity of the year. Their work changes lives every day, offering safety, dignity and hope to those who need it most. Together, we will champion a whole-community approach to ensuring women and girls feel safe, supported and empowered to thrive – while recognising the vital role men and boys play as allies in building safer, more respectful communities.”
