Support and advocacy for children and young people

Rape and child sexual abuse

We offer a regional support service (covering Sandwell, Walsall, Dudley, and Wolverhampton) for children and young people aged 5-18 who have been affected by rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse.

Our CHISVA (Children’s Independent Sexual Violence Advice) service offers a range of emotional and practical support, including support to report to the police, support at court, counselling, and trauma interventions. We also support and advise parents to help them come to terms with what has happened, navigate the criminal justice process, and support their child.

Please contact us for more information or to make a referral.

Young people 16-24 in abusive relationships

In Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall, we have specialist young people’s IDVAs (independent domestic violence advisers) who support young people aged 16-21 who have experienced domestic abuse in their own relationships.

Teenage relationship abuse is an incident, or pattern of incidents, of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between intimate partners.  Anyone can be abused, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity or sexuality.

Please contact us for more information or to make a referral.

Domestic abuse in the home (Wolverhampton only)

Our Future is Black Country Women’s Aid’s project offering a range of support to schools to help them respond effectively to children and young people affected by domestic abuse.  Support is currently (2023) available to primary schools in Wolverhampton.

If you have concerns about a child witnessing or living with domestic abuse, or if you have received a notification via West Midlands Police Operation Encompass, we can help. The options may include:

  • Advice and guidance from our team on supporting the child through internal safeguarding;
  • One to one support and advocacy based on the child or young person’s needs;

A range of staff training is also available. Contact us for more information.
