It’s not just a day at the beach… It’s a day they’ll never forget.

Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to gather everything needed for a perfect seaside escape – buckets, spades, snacks, swimming costumes, coach fare, and even a little spending money.

Because this wasn’t just a trip, it was:

  • A moment to forget trauma and feel joy
  • A chance to see a child smile, or hear them laugh for the first time in a long time
  • The wonder of feeling the sun on your skin, hearing the waves crash, and putting your feet in the sand
  • Experiencing the seaside for the very first time

So, what did we get up to?

Excitement filled the air as the coaches arrived outside the refuge. The children and women were ready for a day of fun in Blackpool. This year’s coaches had air conditioning, a big upgrade from last year, making the journey much more comfortable. Children clutched their donated buckets and spades, snacks were handed out, and smiles grew as the sea and rollercoasters came into view.

For many, it was their first time seeing the ocean.

When we arrived, the joy was overwhelming. Children ran straight to the sand, splashing in the sea and building sandcastles with moats filled with seawater. Their laughter was contagious — a sound that brought smiles to everyone around.

For the women, this day meant peace. A chance to feel normal again. They dressed up, relaxed, and watched their children play freely. Fish and chips (and burgers!) were enjoyed by the sea, souvenirs were picked out, and the arcades brought out playful competition.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters through the Bucket and Spade Appeal, every child had what they needed and more. Most importantly, they had the chance to make memories that will last a lifetime.

One woman shared:

For just one day, we could forget about our stresses. Just sun, sea, and the sound of children laughing. We felt free.
