We are thrilled to announce that West Midlands Metro has selected Black Country Women’s Aid as their Charity of the Year for 2025! This decision follows a robust internal selection process where colleagues nominated and voted for a cause close to their hearts.

For the past four years, Metro has embraced this collaborative approach, allowing colleagues to select a single charity each year to focus our fundraising efforts. This year’s chosen charity is close to the hearts of many colleagues.

Reflecting on Metro’s 2024 fundraising efforts, Vicki Bennett, West Midlands Metro Customer Service Manager, commented, “We raised an amazing £1,153 for Acorns Children’s Hospice through a mix of fundraising events, including Christmas Jumper Day, coffee mornings, skydiving and more. It’s inspiring to see the team working together to make a difference.”

“As we turn our focus to supporting Black Country Women’s Aid in 2025, the team will aim to make an even bigger impact as we look forward to contributing to the important work this charity does for survivors in our community.”

2025 charity of the year!

Black Country Women’s Aid is an independent charity that has been at the forefront of providing support for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence in the region for over 30 years. Their vital services offer survivors a pathway to rebuild their lives through specialised support, advocacy, and safe spaces.

Speaking about the partnership, Sara Ward, Black Country Women’s Aid CEO said: “We are thrilled to be chosen by West Midlands Metro staff to be their charity of the year. We both work at the heart of our communities, so this partnership is a valuable opportunity to further raise awareness for our victim support services.

We are honoured to be involved in the West Midlands Metro’s upcoming International Women’s Day event and are looking forward to working together on some exciting fundraising ideas. With West Midlands Metro’s support, we can reach even more people in need and help them start new, safer lives.”
